What is Kwanzaa?


Today is the first day of Kwanzaa.  “Kwanzaa is an African American and Pan-African holiday which celebrates family, community, and culture.”(1)  Kwanzaa is not a religious tradition.  Kwanza begins on December 26th and ends on January 1st.  “It was created in 1966 by Dr. Mualana Karenga, professor of Africana Studies at California State University, Long Beach.”(2)
